Elden Ring is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, with worldbuilding contributions from fantasy author George R. R. Martin, the game was released on February 25, 2022, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.   Set in the expansive world of the Lands Between, players assume the role of a customizable character on a quest to repair the Elden Ring and ascend as the new Elden Lord. The game features an open-world design with six main areas, traversable on horseback, and includes linear, hidden dungeons offering valuable items. Combat involves a variety of weapons, magic spells, and stealth mechanics. Checkpoints scattered throughout the world allow for fast travel and character progression using an in-game currency called runes. Elden Ring also offers an online multiplayer mode for cooperative and player-versus-player interactions.
